HINDRANCE TO PRAYER Question: Does it sometimes feel as if your prayer hits the ceiling and bounces back to you? Does it feel as if something is hindering your prayer? If so, what could be a hindrance to your prayer? Psalm 66:18, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear”. To regard iniquity in the heart means that there is some sort or degree of sympathy with sin. The fact that people do not see you any more in your former bad attitude, orientation, character, and disposition, does not mean you are truly born again. Only God Almighty knows the heart of man. Remember what happened when Prophet Samuel went to Jesse’s house to anoint one of his sons as the next king in 1 Samuel 16:7. “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Man may do much by outward restraints but only God can help them to stop sinning. No one can say, “No” to sin without the help of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says in Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are those who are pure in heart for they shall see God”. In other words, they shall pray and their prayers shall be answered. PRAYER: Lord Jesus, grant unto my soul a heart that does not bear grudges, a heart that is pure, a heart that is humble and sincere, not a rebellious heart, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
