#HIRING: #ESPN - Vice President of Business Development - ESPN - NY The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for developing and executing ESPN strategy for content and other third party relationships, with a focus on smartly growing ESPN Content’s business and product offerings across all areas of Content (television, digital, wireless, print, national, local, etc.) The individual will evaluate prospective partners (including acquisition candidates) in all aspects of traditional and digital media and also assist in ESPN’s strategic planning. Responsibilities • Works with top management of ESPN Content and relevant internal colleagues (Strategy, Finance, Business Affairs, Ad Sales, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, etc.) to develop new business and product initiatives, assess new markets and media landscape, analyze business opportunities, and develop and conduct competitive analysis • Advises and supports senior executives on key business development analysis and execution • Directs cross-functional teams and facilitate efforts to build new business strategies, rationalize processes, and identify, qualify and present strategic issues to top management • Identifies and evaluates potential opportunities • Establishes and builds strategic relationships with executives from potential and established partners • Originates and negotiates resulting partnerships • In consultation with the Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development establishes business goals on a regular basis and ensures goals are on target. • Evaluates and negotiates complex business development matters in new and emerging businesses while also fully understanding, supporting and expanding our existing businesses • Engages colleagues to ensure ESPN’s business initiatives support ESPN’s strategic vision • Works with Finance on business planning and market assessment for ESPN Content projects, including quantitative models to support business development and value creation efforts • Consults regularly with ESPN colleagues regarding how ESPN’s business development activities can support their initiatives and businesses • Gives presentations to internal and external parties regarding the latest developments in the marketplace (sports rights, digital and traditional media offerings, business models, social networking, mobile, tablets, etc.) and ESPN’s business development efforts • Is knowledgeable regarding ESPN’s offerings to give demonstrations of new products, technology, programming, etc., and explore beneficial business relationships in all these areas • Represents ESPN at industry panels, public speaking events, interviews with press and publications, industry conventions, etc. • Works closely with Business Affairs regarding rights issues and best practices in deal making • Works closely with Ad Sales and other revenue groups to help drive revenues • Works with relevant internal groups to keep them informed during the deal making process and to review and implement requirements of new business relationships (rights, technology, marketing support, etc.) • Collaborates with external and TWDC parties and internal ESPN groups regarding strategy and new business efforts • Is excellent at presenting complex information in a formal and clear manner to all levels of employees • Writes business development proposals, and presents proposals to peers and other executives • Manages multiple key projects simultaneously • Remains proficient and knowledgeable in traditional media and cutting edge internet and wireless goods and services • Advises staff and assists in professional growth development • Consults with top management of ESPN on all aspects of the organizations business development policies, objectives, and initiatives Basic Qualifications • 10+ years of extensive business development experience • High degree of quantitative and analytical experience in media or technology • Ability to facilitate large group sessions with top-level executives • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive projects with competing demands for resources • Strong ability to comprehend, structure and negotiate complex business agreements, strong business and financial acumen, and superior analytical and writing skills • Strong and effective negotiating skills, including: deep understanding of the traditional media business, internet, new media and interactive platforms and the associated business models Preferred Qualifications • Business acumen and ability to read and synthesize various media consumption and marketplace reports; practical application of business and process-mapping techniques • Excellent strategic and creative thinking, with particular emphasis on evaluating new opportunities and changing marketplace and media consumption dynamics • Experience in leading a corporate strategy or business development group/function in a leading media or technology corporation • Track record in conceptualizing, establishing and building new businesses• • Leadership experience in digital or multiplatform business development• • Ability to provide guidance on strategy for developing, offering or acquiring digital media goods and services. • Superior communication skills with the ability to interact cross-functionally at all organizational levels and externally with business associates and clients, including exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills • Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision while exercising discretion and independent, sound judgment • Must excel in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment Required Education •MBA degree Additional Information Imagine a career with an organization that brings smiles to millions every day.
