HIS NAME IS A STRONG TOWER..... I recently read a book by Elmer L. Towns called The Ultimate Guide to The Names of God. He writes about the many names of God as set out in the old testament and how they help us to understand our heavenly Father and His love for us as His people of the new covenant we have in Christ. One of the names Towns writes about is Jehovah Sabaoth which means the Lord of Hosts, the God of the Angel armies. Time and time again we see the Lord deploy his armies to meet Israels needs in time of strife or to protect his anointed ones. In 2 Kings 6:16 the prophet Elisha reassures his attendant with the words - Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them. The servants eyes are opened by God to see the Lords armies encamped all around them. I love that scripture! In Psalm 91 we have the promise for He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways . They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. (Ps. 91:11-12). This particular name of God apparently appears 281 times in the old testament and when David takes on Goliath the giant, with just a sling and five stones...he does so in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom thou has defied. It is by this power that He defeats the giant and I am learning that is only by the power in the name of Jesus that I can take on the giants in my life. God promises to watch over us even as He watched over Israel if we place our trust in Him and follow His commandments. Whatever comes against us we can find our shelter and safety in Him David says in Psalm 91 - Those who live in the shelter of the most high will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: he alone is my refuge, my place of safety. he is my God, and I trust him. Proverbs 18:10 says The name of the Lord is a strong fortress ; the godly run to Him and are safe. Finally, one of my favourite Psalms is Psalm 121 particularly the verses that read: The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. 8 The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever. (NASB) I know He watches over me, I know He lights my path, I know He sends His angels to protect and watch over me as I sleep, to be with me as I wake, to be at my side through the day. I know He is my refuge, my strong tower, my place of safety. He is the one who protects me from Harm. I know this, I trust in this and I know that if I trust Him, obey His commandments and humble myself before His throne...He will keep me safe! Do you know this too?
