HIS STRENGTH IS AGAINST YOUR FEARS “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea” (Psalms 46:1-2) The reason God assures us of his presence and of his helping strength with us is so that we will not fear: Be strong and of good courage because God is with you, neither fear nor be afraid. His strength should first remove the fear in us, before removing the evil surrounding us: 1. Fear shows that the surrounding evil has gotten inside of us through intimidation, but 2. Courage shows that the surrounding God has gotten inside of us through faith. One of the ways you can regard and respect the presence of God with you is by not showing any sign of fear in the face of evil or worries of life. God may feel insulted whenever we are moved by fear or intimidation of evil, because it shows that we are looking more at our fears than at our God: 1. Fear means we are looking more at ourselves in weakness more than we are looking at God in perfection; 2. Pride means we are looking more at ourselves in glorying more than we are looking at God in perfection. Therefore, both fear and pride are lies coming from our fallen nature: No man can see clearly through fear or through pride.
