HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING AUG. 2 IN GRAND JUNCTION, TOURING KENNEDY MUSEUM The Greene County Historical Society will have one of its regular gatherings on Friday, August 2, in Grand Junction, with a group tour of the Kennedy Museum there. Lunch, by reservation, is at 12 noon at the First United Presbyterian Church, and then the 1 p.m. tour of the museum is free to all. For more than 20 years, Jerry Kennedy, of Grand Junction, has been collecting historical items especially from the east half of the county. For the past 15 years, he has been displaying it in a 60-by-110-foot former lumberyard building. “I’ve had a lot of fun sharing all this with people,” said the 82-year-old Kennedy, who farmed 40 years. “I’ve never charged anybody a penny to see it, and I’ve never tried to sell any of the collection. It’s just my treat to the people.” The full lunch at the Presbyterian Church is $8, and reservations should be phoned to historical society community contacts by next Tuesday, July 30. Those are Helen Eason, Scranton, 712-652-3878; Liz Guess, Churdan, 515-389-3160; Virginia Carlson, Paton, 386-2401; Betty Griffith, Grand Junction, 738-5767; Marilynn Hoskinson, Jefferson, 386-3490; Dot Lawton, Cooper, 386-4585; Mary Weaver, Rippey, 436-7679.
