HISTORY LESSON ~The fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of Soviet rule in Europe~ So like what most of my admins have said, today was the day that the Berlin Wall was starting to come down. With the fall of the wall in 1989, this begun a chain of independence movements and revolutions in the eastern bloc nations such as the Singing Revolution in the Baltics and the Solidarity movement in Poland (Poland is a different case. Even though most communist didnt worship religion, Poland was devoutly catholic. In 1978 Karol Józef Wojtyła, a pole, was elected Pope and assumed the name John Paul II) But the wall not only stood as a physical barrier, but also a division between democratic west and communist east. Not only for Berlin, not only for Germany, but for Europe. In hindsight, the Brandenburg Gate on November 9,1987 was ground zero for the end of communism.
