HISTORY OF KUMASI ANGLICAN SHS NAME: KUMASI ANGLICAN ESTABLISHED: 1973 GENDER: MIXED COLOUR: WHITE, YELLOW AND VIOLET MOTTO: UNITY, TRUTH AND SERVICE NICKNAME: DISCIPLES Anglican Senior High School now occupied was acquired by the English Church Mission (ECM) in the early 1920s from the Amakom chief, to establish on institution to train the clergy to facilitate the growth of the church in the Gold Coast. In 1952 St. Augustine Theologiacal College was established. It was closed down in 1952. In 1945 the training of priests resumed until 1950 when the programme was relocated to the Bishops House in Accra. In 1952 when 30 training college was established nationwide, the Anglican Church was asked to use the facilities to run in kumasi., Wiawso Training College temporarily until the buildings for the college were constructed at Wiawso in the Western Region. In 1952-1964 the campus was called Wiawso Training College. N.Y Topp Yankah was appointed the first principal from 1952 -1956. The Anglican Church applied to the Government to use this facility for the Day Teacher Training College which had already been set up at the bishop house and school compound in Accra, to be transferred to Kumasi. In 1973, Anglican Training College became Anglican Senior High School when the second republic, under the prime Minister, Dr. K.A Busia was overthrown by Colonial I.K Ache among. The petition was granted and in September 1973 we had Anglican Secondary School . It is a mixed school but in 1987 the girls were debordinised and from then onwards the girls attended classes as day students. Rev Father P.D Aggrey who used to be the Principal of the Training College was retained as the first Headmaster of the school from 1973 - 1981 when he retired.
