HISTORY OF ONE IN CHRIST WINDHOEK The Bible in Galatians 3:28 - TopicsExpress

HISTORY OF ONE IN CHRIST WINDHOEK The Bible in Galatians 3:28 read “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither male nor female for you are all one in Christ Jesus”. This is the Biblical verse which inspires the vision of One In Christ Windhoek. The main objective of the group is to unite the Community at large through music concerts. Lately, One In Christ has further diversified into other community projects including distribution of clothes to the needy in our society. It was in June 2010 when Dumiso Nkiwane and Jabulani Ncube, who were both leaders of SDASM and the Youth Federation respectively at the time, noticed that the majority of young people, church members and community members love music. They concluded that music is generic and is all encompassing to everyone.Aware of the manner in which concerts have brought people together and have enhanced fellowship due to the fact that both of them had attended numerous concerts before, the two resolved to explore the idea further. When they attended the SDASM convention that was held in Bloemfontein that year in August, they met a melodious and vocally talented group from Lesotho called One In Christ which was the main singing group at the Convention. They linked up with the group`s manager, Sithembiso Motha, whom they continued to communicate with for the remainder of 2010 with the hope of hosting One In Christ in Namibia. The 14th of June 2011 represented the major breakthrough. One In Christ came to Namibia for a concert which was hosted by Windhoek South church. The concert was held under the theme “Identity in Christ” which was the theme of the year for the world wide Adventist Youth Ministries. Groups that performed as supporting acts included Vocal Motion Six, Vocal Expression, Okahandja Church choir, Chisha Sisters, Hope Singers and the Cherubims. The concert was a fundraising project for the Okahandja Youth who were preparing for a youth camp. Jabulani Ncube was the leader of the Okahandja Youth club at the time. After this concert, Jabu and Dumi continued to contact more groups to expand the project further as they continued to establish links with singing groups in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Stand and Reunion from Zimbabwe were the next groups on the radar, inclusive of No Limits, Jasper and Pearly Gates from South Africa. However, the concert that was set to proceed in November 2011 failed to proceed due to circumstances beyond their control. They also started working with Delisa Ndlovu, a pedantic organizer with an impeccable pedigree in creativity and innovation. Delisa was a member of Higher Praise Ensemble which organized the 28 July 2011 Shower Power Concert that was held at the Windhoek Central church. It was a great success. Peter Chizyuka from VM6, who is a master in organizing concerts and a talented vocalist and composer, also joined the concert organizing committee. On the 6th of February 2012, the concert proceeded at the Katutura Community Hall featuring the local groups due to a number of logistical problems which excluded the guest groups Stand and Reunion. The groups that performed were VM6, Chisha Sisters and Hope Singers. The theme of the concert was “One In Praise Gospel Concert”. On the 20th of October 2012, the One In Christ concert featuring Stand and Reunion was held at the St Mary`s Cathedral Hall in Windhoek. At that stage, the Committee had been joined by Admire Toga, the youth leader of Windhoek Central church at the time, who had played a crucial role when Shower Power was hosted by Higher Praise Ensemble in 2011. Akalemwa Mukubonda joined the group as someone with creative talent to deal with the marketing aspect of concerts. She is also a talented vocalist in her own right. Venita and Helen played a crucial role in preparing food for the main groups namely Stand and Reunion from Zimbabwe. The concert was further supported by a number of local groups inclusive of VM6, Vocal Expression, Chisha Sisters, Hope Singers and Brawling love. The concert represented the first time that the Committee finally settled on the name “One In Christ Windhoek” in resonance with its objectives and vision. The concert was dubbed One In Christ and the NBC recorded the concert and played excerpts of it throughout the Christmas holidays of 2012. The guest groups further recorded at the NBC for New Season and enjoyed airplay on television. On 27 April 2013, One In Christ Windhoek hosted Jasper Sea from Zambia, a well travelled, award winning, vocally talented group which performed at Gateway Centre in Windhoek. The supporting groups were Chisha Sisters, Hope Singers and Higher Praise Ensemble. NBC provided the recording and it was a well attended concert. The road has been rocky, thorny and tough, littered with a litany of challenges. However, the group has been inspired by the biblical teachings on the fruit of the Spirit and waiting upon the Lord who has seen the group through all trials and tribulations. Prayer and fasting is the foundation of the group. We would like to thank all those who have sponsored One In Christ in cash and kind, in prayers, encouraging messages, devotionals and to you all who attend the concerts. Without all these people who are too numerous to mention and who have requested us not to mention their names, these concerts would not have succeeded. We still ask for your prayers and your support as the One In Christ team hosts concerts because of the individuals in the group who have a passion and a love for the music. Ephesians 4:11-16 states that they are many ministries but one God. Concerts are vital in evangelizing and unifying both Christian and non-Christian communities. We believe it is through concerts that God has designated our purpose. We use our talents and Spiritual Gifts to the glory of God and to serve humanity. One In Christ Windhoek is a non profit organization and does not host concerts for a profit. We rely on God`s provisions that come by faith through your generous donations and the ticket sales which specifically cater for the expenses incurred in the hosting of each concert. On the 7th of July 2013, the One In Christ team visited a children’s home in Katutura and donated winter clothes as part of its outreach responsibilities. One In Christ has formally adopted the children`s home. One In Christ has further partnered with the likes of Quetura who launched her album in March 2013 and Jesus Tchavango from the Baptist church who also launched his album on the 10th of August 2013. We also have you, the music fans, as part of the team and who make it possible to host these shows. Without you, we would not have One In Christ Windhoek. We hope to expand further and be more visible. Our facebook page, One In Christ Windhoek is your gateway to information which keeps you updated about all our projects and music concerts. On the 26th of October 2013, One In Christ Windhoek will host SHOWER POWER from Zimbabwe. Shower Power is a best selling, multi talented singing group from Zimbabwe which has won numerous awards. The awards include the Zimbabwe music awards, the America Contemporary Acapella Recording Arts (CARA) award of 2013. Shower Power has recorded more than 12 albums and these have all been a success. Shower Power has travelled to the USA, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and many more countries including Namibia. This will be their second show in Namibia. Lets all give them the One In Christ welcome they deserve. We ask you for your prayers and support as the organizing continues. Ray Kroc, a founder member of McDonalds, the food outlet, once said, “No one of us is more important than the rest of us.” This is what we stand for and epitomize as One In Christ. Gospel music unifies us all as it is a universal language that we all understand. God bless you all and thank you for taking your time to read this article.
