HIT formul of MODI New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a somber task these days. He wants to re-mend relations with the neighboring countries, which faced solemn whipping in the last decade of the UPA rule, at least what the political pundits claim. After Bhutan, it’s Nepal’s turn now. This is the first visit by an Indian PM in 17 years to the country of Pashupatinath. Nevertheless, there were six Heads of State and nine prime ministerial visits from Nepal to India during this period – that sends a serious message. Notably, Modi’s Nepal visit is being seen striking the right note, with strategic/bilateral diplomacy dominating the ongoing proceedings – much to gratification of the ruling NDA and surely RSS, the ideological parent of BJP, considering Nepal being a Hindu nation. Modi’s shrewd ploy Nepal has shown a vibrant proclivity towards China in the past few years. No longer are the country’s political circles termed as sleepy especially after it apparently began playing “India card” while dealing with China and vice versa – to its own gain. • Fresh Line of Credit - Modi began with a welcome announcement of $1 billion (10,000 crore Nepali Rupees) line of credit to Nepal. This is seen as fail-safe bait which can surely restore relations between neighboring nations, which also share common religious beliefs. • SAARC satellite- His talking about launching a SAARC satellite that benefits constituent nations of the group in areas such as health, medicine, agriculture and flood control should also amaze Nepal. • H-I-T formula - Modi’s H-I-T promises establishment of highways, Infoways and Transways for improving economic growth of the country and enriching its infrastructural scenario. • Offering apology – Modi was quick to offer apology to Nepal saying it took Indian PM 17 long years to make a visit to the country and such mistake wouldn’t be repeated again. • Importance of constitution - “A Constitution always unites, it never divides… A Constitution is not merely a book. It integrates the past, present and the future,” said Modi. Political experts term it as a shrewd play from Modi who not only wants Nepal to come out of influence of Chinese communism but to embrace democracy through means of strong democratic constitution. Although, Modi included much more right from age old relationship between the Himalayas and the Ganga and cooperation between Nepal Television and Doordarshan in his speech, the underlining point is that at last, India is making the right diplomatic/bilateral moves. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to claim Modi has finally arrived on the scene as a Prime Minister who can easily double as a very capable diplomat.
