#HIV evolving to be less harmful A major scientific study at the University of Oxford says that HIV is evolving to be less deadly and less infectious as it adapts to human immune systems, some virologists suggesting that the virus may eventually become almost harmless. The team showed this process happening in Africa by comparing #Botswana to #South Africa, where HIV arrived a decade later. The ability of the virus to replicate and cause #AIDS was found to be 10% lower in Botswana than in South Africa. However, these milder forms of HIV are still dangerous and can cause AIDS. Improved use of antiretroviral and the development of a cure is still crucial in containing the virus which affects more than 35 million people around the world. See more:
