HMW Recruiters: First Nations Coordinator About this job: Our client, a gold mining company, has an immediate opening for a First Nations Coordinator JOB DESCRIPTION The First Nations Coordinator will work with the First Nations communities to identify ways to empower their communities with the structure, training and tools necessary to be successful in the development of independence and sustainability, in areas such as business development contracts, employment, education/training, scholarships, and community development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES •Maintain cooperative and mutually beneficial relations with affected First Nations communities •Coordinate and facilitate meetings between First Nations and management •Identify & assess the needs and capabilities of the First Nations communities and how we can support them to build a mutually beneficial relationship •Work with the Human Resources Manager to develop a recruitment and training strategy focused on First Nations communities. •Promote collaborative partnerships with local education institutions, band education departments and possible employment and/or training agencies to enhance First Nations with personal development and job readiness skills •Develop effective processes with First Nations to communicate & respond to contract opportunities •Foster First Nations entrepreneurs, when possible •Identify possible business development resources for interested First Nations entrepreneurs •Research possible funding sources to further mining education/training opportunities •Mentor and coach current and potential First Nations employees, as required •Promote First Nations cultural awareness •Coordinate information sessions in First Nations communities to foster an understanding and awareness of the project (e.g. Community schools, career fairs, community meetings, elders’ luncheons, etc.) •Coordinate closely with consultants concerning the stakeholder engagement and consultation program to support a project application to the BC Environmental Assessment Office •Inform the Project management team of any issues that may or will affect project activity planned or in progress •Participate in appropriate CSR activities related to First Nations and facilitate their implementation •Work closely with the Environmental Director to develop and implement effective approaches to the inclusion of First Nations input to the Permitting process. •Work closely with the technical team to ensure that First Nations Traditional Knowledge is considered during the site development and design processes; document where design changes have been made to accommodate First Nations input / Traditional Knowledge •Liaise with legal counsel to ensure that proper First Nations consultation is being completed and documented QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and experience overseeing similar types of agreements or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience •Understanding and ability to work within both industry standards and the First Nations culture are essential •Must have excellent written & oral communication capability and relationship skills •Experienced with First Nations communities, council, administration, education/training institutions and stakeholders •Experienced with broader community and education/training development •Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks and handle high stress incidents •Solid teamwork/team-building attitude
