HNN BREAKING NEWS: Hon. Supreme Court orders the Union Govt to file the stage by stage plan in 3 weeks to clean Ganga. Details: Delhi, Sept 3, 2014: On the case going on for last 30 yrs, since 1985, filed by the environmental conservationist, today the Hon. Supreme Court has asked to file the detailed plan. August 2nd week this yr after the new Govt came into power, the Hon. Supreme Court had asked the Govt to file the detailed plan to this effect, saying, The new Govt came to power promising clean Ganga in its manifesto, but its focusing on other things. After this the Union Govt had filed a detailed plan to clean Ganga. The Hon. Supreme Court, in a hearing today, termed the plan good but also expressed its dissatisfaction describing it as too bureaucratic. The salient features of todays order: 1) The Union Govt should file an affidavit detailing stage by stage plan to clean Ganga on every stretch of Her over 2500 km route from Gangotri to Gangasagar. 2) Ganga has a right to Her natural ecological water flow. The Govt should also detail in the affdivati as to how it plans to maintain Gangas natural & ecological flow. 3) The apex court assured the Govt that it was not opposed to the Ganga Cleaning, on the other hand it would monitor the process right from the beginning so that on the over 2500 km stretch if there were any hurdles by the local authorities / dist admins / state govts etc, the Hon. Supreme Court could intervene to ensure fast & proper execution of the Ganga Cleaning plan.
