HOLIDAY HORROR. ....Time for a little update. Despite the nice evening meal in malaga last night, thing are very far from rosy here in Spain. We had just got to day 4 of our holiday... Following an arduous drive to Malaga, completed all the necessary tasks, done the shopping, two ikea runs, installed new TV etc. arrived home after market trip to unpack shopping commenting at last, we are ready to relax! Getting shopping out of the car, my poor mum tripped over a low concrete bollard with a very sharp edge. Mum is playing down, but she has sustained an horrific injury where she has literally had a very large orange-sized slice deep into her leg, plus Sustained two fractures of the lower leg and ankle. We had to wait almost twenty minutes for an ambulance, staring at her terrifying wound with my mum knowing that her leg was broken also. I cannot tell you how hard it is to see someone you love in so much trouble and feeling utterly helpless. Our enormous thanks go to Cristina who heard our cries of anguish and came to help, called the ambulance and generally kept her cool, plus managed all the translation. But now to my mum, Beryl. She remained calm, collected and completely in control thought her ordeal, making it so, so much easier for the rest of us to deal with. She is simply AMAZING and the BRAVEST WOMAN I KNOW. She is now in her second hospital for the third night. Has had the wound stitched (maybe 40 odd stitches) plus further surgery the following day to have her leg pinned and plated with titanium. We now have to keep fingers crossed for no infection and full recovery from the fracture. Those of you who know what my mum has been through in the last five years, will understand that the universe is being particularly unkind to her right now. We were just trying to have a quiet and peaceful holiday in a place we are very familiar and usually feel safe and comfortable in. Any advice from any medical friends greatly appreciated as we feel a little in the dark regards whether my mum should be moving around, keeping still etc etc. right now. She is in a private clinic in Malaga who have done a marvellous job of patching her up, but we are now concerned about quality of recovery care. Lack of physio/ot etc.
