*** HOLLY *** Why hello everybody, Im Hot Wheels Holly! Im so excited to finally say hi and thank you to all my friends who have supported me in my rescue journey. I feel like Im still just getting started, but Ive actually come a looooong way! Im looking for my furever home just like any other Boxer who comes through this awesome group, would you happen to be my special person, with a heart of gold, ready to see me through my final transformation? If so, let my NWBR friends know because Im waiting for you! Heres what you should know about me... My rescue friends were told Im under two years old and my foster mom says I play and function like a total puppy. Im crazy happy, mouthy and fearless, my foster brothers and all the pups who regularly visit our home, are ALL my friends. I havent met a pup I didnt think was swell. I weigh about 45 pounds, and if youve heard of me before, its probably because Im struggling with paralysis in my back legs. I do have *some* mobility, mostly in the right back leg, but its all relative. You see, Im on an incredible journey to try and walk again so, if you leave me alone to fend for myself without a wheelchair, I may stand, stumble a few paces and then decide that scooting is much faster. I may wag my tail one day and then not again for a few. I might wag my tail five times a day on a good day. Im like a toddler learning to walk, I have more good days all the time and I get stronger daily. I want to walk, run and jump like a normal dog SO BADLY, but my legs just dont cooperate so, I do whatever I can, whenever I can. Every day Im a bit busier, but I also still need allot of help to keep getting better. Im in swim therapy and acupuncture weekly in the Lynnwood, WA area, to help me build muscle tone and stimulate my nerves. These therapies have been amazing for me and will need to continue. When I was found in Mexico several months ago by 4 Patas Rescue, I was emaciated and totally unable to walk. In addition to nerve damage and muscle deterioration, I also had severe wounds on my hind end from dragging. Diagnostic x-rays have led my local vets to believe I was probably hit by a car, theres an old fracture to my left hip, a rib head fracture around my T-12 vertebrae, and a slight rotation to that same T-12 vertebrae. I dont need surgeries at this point just time, love, and support to become whole. Pretty awesome how much progress Ive made, right? Im so motivated, I just know I can keep going! My pool therapist only charges the cleaning fee for the pool even! Shes fantastic and I hope I get to to keep working with her! My foster mom says Im kind of a full time job, but that Im so cute and hilarious you will never be bored, at least when were together. I need help to go potty regularly and I dont have much control over my bladder to keep from leaking in between time. Lately, we have a good system in place where my foster parents help me potty every couple of hours, limit my water consumption before bed and make me go potty very late at night and very early in the morning. This helps me stay dry overnight sometimes, but mostly the nights are just too long between potty breaks and I leak. If I have a totally fabulous day and Im just completely exhausted, I tend to be leakier. On the bright side, I can sleep in a crate or an x-pen so you can make my bedding easy to change out daily. This whole going potty thing is a trick my foster mom can show you, you have to be physically able to lean over and hold me up/support my backside and encourage me to go several times since Im usually pretty distracted and want to play instead of focus. Inside the house, we use a little container for me to pee/poop in so mom can just flush it afterwards, outside is much easier of course. Im on a raw diet and that has been a really good thing for me. I needed the immune boost and it firmed up my poop too, which is also a big plus since I can better control when to go now. I LOVE my raw food and my foster mom says shell be happy to explain to my adoptive family how/what she makes for me, its not crazy expensive, just MUCH better for me. I do take a few medications to help things fire, Im on a prednisone blend, and Gabapentin, as well as several supplements. My vet says I will also face a regular need for antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections as that is just par for the course with dogs who lack full control like I do. My foster mama is actually hoping the diet and supplements I take will help reduce this risk, but we need to give it more time. Im a very vocal dog, if I had legs like a cheetah Id be one heck of a guard dog since Im suspicious of anyone new. Its hard for me to be stuck in my x pen and not go right up to meet someone if they come over, this is a time when I will whine and bark allot to tell you Im frustrated. If you just make sure Im in my wheelchair to meet new people and pets, I feel excited and confident to make friends right away. I do struggle with this same issue in my car crate, its frustrating to be stuck back there and I will make silly, constant noise when you stop for coffee or hit up the bank drive thru as I cant climb in front to say hello. My bad habit is likely also related to my age, its another sign my foster mom says makes me appear to be a younger puppy because its normal for puppies to go through this. Im completely harmless and so silly, nobody takes me seriously! Im looking for a furever family that has fur kids for me, I absolutely LOVE my foster fur brothers and would be so miserable without the company of at least one other playful pup. Im busy and still learning and growing, Im ready for action when you say go! My wheelchair allows me to cruise around for walks, get up most curbs, even take a few stairs sometimes and definitely chase my fur brothers really FAST! Ok, not fast enough to chase a cat, but I am fast. You do have to watch out for me, I go so fast sometimes, that I end up in a rollover accident and have to be flipped back upright. Endless entertainment for my foster parents. Its going to be best if my home does NOT have stairs and if my mom or dad is home, or works from home. I can totally be crated, but Ill complain about it so just ignore me and Ill get over it. If you take me around town I guarantee you will get a TON of attention and even free stuff... its crazy how much everyone loves me. Just the other day my hot wheels got me a free cookie, leash, and a discount at Petco. I really know how to work it! NWBR Adoption Application and Information: nwboxerrescue.org/Adopt.htm
