HON. ABDUL RAHMAN THORLU-BANGURAS INTERVIEW I just had the chance to listen to Hon Thorlu-Bangura’s interview and I am very impressed with the gentleman, his political believes for SL and his knowledge and forthrightness about SLPP’s history and affairs. Thanks, Ibrahim Sheriff for this excellent work. Every SLPP member should listen to this interview. https://m.soundcloud/ibrahim-sheriff/thorlu-bangura Refreshing insights include: - Tejan Kabbah did well as president but the areas where he failed had to do with his lack of understanding of the country and the overhang of his UN experience on his thinking. For example, he pushed us into the arms of pariah states like Iran and Libya because he held a grudge against the US for defunding the UN when he was there. - People who have never worked in/for the party and learned its core values and political ethos are coming for leadership and not to belong. - Kandeh Yumkella’s father became a good strong member of SLPP but he was never a founding member because he was not old enough to have been a founding member. So KKYM can abandon this other lie in addition to the many they have been telling us? Kandeh is not a member of SLPP and his father was not a founding member, now what? - When asked to compare his performance as Minister of Trade under President Kabbah and his predecessor, Kandeh Yumkella under the NPRC, he said the main difference was that when Kandeh privatized GOSL parastatals he sold them exclusively to foreigners whereas when he privatized them he worked hard to ensure that only Sierra Leoneans bought them. - Anyone who wants to be president of SL should be judged on his record of performance in SL, not by his performance externally in an international organization. I agree 100%. In the case of KKY, his performance as NUC President reveals money corruption which has been the bane of SL’s development and now according to Hon Thorlu-Bangura, his seeming lack of patriotism for not empowering SL businessmen to own our parastatals that were up for sale. This latter fault too had to have been motivated by money corruption. In fairness, he had to have done this in cohorts with his NPRC bosses, Bio et al. - He believes in strong decentralization of power to the level of boroughs (counties in the US) running their own affairs. He is my soul mate on this. This is the only reason I take an interest in Sl politics, devolving power from the center and party to the people to run their affairs (housing, schools, public sanitation, utilities, etc). Here is a solid Northern brother who has served, is very wise, capable, humble, articulate and is not telling us that he should be crowned SLPP flag bearer because he believes only a Northerner can win State House for SLPP. This guy is SLPP presidential material!! SZ
