HOPE from The Sanctuary of Hope March 11 2014 Tolerance Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. Philippians 3:2 “I think tolerance and acceptance and love is something that feeds every community.†Lady Gaga As expressed by none other than Lady Gaga, spokesperson for our culture, tolerance is today one of the cardinal virtues with love and acceptance. I doubt her statement would stir much controversy in the public school or on network news. The only negative may be the vast number of sore neck muscles as the masses reflexively nod enthusiastically in agreement. On the other hand, the harsh statement of Paul would be seen and described by this same audience as hate speech and universally condemned. Does it cause you as much concern as it does me that our children and grandchildren are being indoctrinated to accept the wisdom of Lady Gaga and reject the hate speech of Paul the Apostle? How long would John the Baptist last before he was condemned and silenced? Even the words of Jesus, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.†(Luke 14:26) would be labeled as intolerant. In our culture today, I know too many young people who would either reject the truth or be silent rather than be called intolerant or a hater. When Lady Gaga speaks of love and tolerance and acceptance, she may well be speaking of something the Bible calls sin, or evil, or abomination. This stands in stark contrast to the biblical truth that, though God is love, He never tolerates or accepts sin. Never. He, instead, makes a way to demolish sin through the cross and invites all to come (acceptance). That is the TRUTH, spoken in LOVE. When Christians lack enough love to speak the truth because they might be persecuted or called names, this generation will perish.
