HORROR MARATHON DAY 5: (501) Maniac Cop (1988) youtu.be/GDy1z47oyiU ^link to full feature (with Spanish subtitles) Recent events involving police and abuse of power inspired this 5 movie bad cop marathon, starting with the mega-popular Maniac Cop. William Lustig, known best for Maniac, I suppose thought the word maniac was his in and proceeded to direct three (well, two and a half) of these movies all featuring the meat-faced Robert Zdar. Fans of Mystery Science Theatre will remember Zdar from Soultaker, where it is pointed out that his face looks like a catchers mitt with eyes. Ha ha. This first movie in the series is easily considered the best, and its got Bruce Campbell, which helped this movie gain an even bigger cult following years later. I suppose my only complaint is that the movie just isnt very scary. It deals too much with police bureaucracy, I suppose this is due to Larry Cohens script as the film excels during Lustigs murder sequences.
