HOSPITAL DISCRIMINATES AGAINST TRANSGENDER WOMAN - A constituent called us yesterday stating that she was suffering from asthma attacks and needed to be admitted to the hospital. However, the hospital staff said they could only admit her into the male ward. She refused and they wanted to discharge her even though she could have complications and die. Gender DynamiX intervened and contacted Iranti-org in JHB who then contacted the Legal Resource Centre. We are happy to say that due to this intervention, the constituent was admitted into a ward which was acceptable to her. We would like to thank Iranti for the collaborative work done with Gender DynamiX and the Legal Resource Centre. Access to health care which respects transgender and gender non-conforming persons is hard but this case shows that it is possible.
