HOT AS TOBASCO, ATA DAMASCO For each progressive volume of my MUSIC for the HAWAIIAN ISLANDS series, I have tried to pick a special guest artist that matches my own music style and really epitomizes the flavor of that specific island. For Maui, two people immediately came to mind. I wanted Lukela Keala and Ata Damasco. Lukela has that sweetness and rich vocal I want to mirror my singing in Lei O Piilani. For Lei Ana O Maui I wanted Ata to play piano. I wanted his easy, old-time rolling style that makes the song just soar. After I thought about it more, I knew I would forever kick myself if I just had Ata play piano and never sing. I re-wrote the song and changed vocals to include his legendary falsetto on this track. I absolutely love how it turned out and am so honored to have these two incredible Maui musicians on my project.
