HOT JOBS WITHOUT A FOUR-YEAR DEGREE As unemployment in Arizona remains at 7.9%, a four year degree is not what you need to land a job. The top five jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, happen to be health care related. If you are interested in the many virtues of nursing but not in the time it takes to get there, a nursing aide position may be right for you. There is no federally mandated training, and few states regulate the profession and one of them is Arizona. Certification is required to work as a pharmacy technician and you obtain the certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. The average hourly wage for this job is $12.32. If the site of blood does not terrify you, the phlebotomy technician training will be for you. Phlebotomy technicians are essential in the clinical laboratory team. Phlebotomy Technician graduates can work in hospitals, physician offices or in independent labs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Phlebotomy Technicians and other medical laboratory technicians in Arizona earned an average wage of $18.37 per hour in 2009, which is 17 cents more per hour than the national average of $18.20 The average annual salary of an Arizona-based phlebotomist or laboratory technician was $38,210 as of 2009, or $350 more per year than the national average of $37,860.
