HOT OFF THE PRESS {Mayhem at the Beach} Myrtle Beach Speedway Issue No.13 Mayhem at the Beach With clear skies and a great fan attendance, Bell and Bell Night took place at the speedway this past Saturday night. The event was headlined with the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models. In qualifying, Justin Milliken made it two for two on the year by posting the fastest time of the 16 competitors. Milliken put up a 21.130 second lap time barely edging out outside polesitter Sam Yarborough who paced the 0.538 mile oval with a 21.139 second lap. The two would share the front row for the first of the twin 50 events. Once the green flag flew to start race one, Sam Yarborough jumped out to the early lead and led flag to flag to win with the field only being slowed by one caution flag. Polesitter Justin Milliken would go on to finish second. Making his first trip to the speedway in 2014, Tyler English finished third with Ryan Glenski and Clay Thomas rounding out the top five. The action would immensely pick up for race two to the delight of fans. A seven car invert reshaped the field putting Matt Cox and Brent Brinson on the front row. The event didnt take long to have sparks flying to bring the crowd to life. Race one winner Sam Yarborough and Tyler English would battle early for fifth position making contact tearing off Yarboroughs right front fender. At the front the lead battle also began to pick up when Justin Milliken worked his way to battle with Matt Cox and Ryan Glenski. Milliken and Cox would beat and bang side by side off of turn four down the front stretch. The battle would come to a halt in turns 3 and 4 when the two tangled bringing out the first caution for the race. Cox suffered minor damage while Millikens was more significant but both would continue on at the back for the restart. The race would then be slowed a few laps later when Milliken came to a stop in turns 1 and 2. The following restart would see the carnage pick back up as Sam Yarborough got in the back of Clay Thomas entering turn one. Thomas would spin into the wall stacking up the field giving damage to many front runners. The final restart would happen with less than 20 laps to go. Yarborough began to flex his muscle once again as he did in race one by driving to the lead past Jamie Weatherford with 5 laps to go. As the top 5 took the white flag a late caution would come out ending the race when Blaze Howell spun lapped car Justin Milliken in turn one triggering a 3 car pileup with Edward Jordan and Tyler English. Englishs car would suffer major damage with all drivers able to walk away from the incident. Yarborough went on to sweep the night capturing the win in both races and was fortunate in victory lane thanking his Chad McCumbee race team. Jamie Weatherford held on to finish second with Brent Brinson, Ryan Glenski, and Matt Cox rounding out the top five. With the twin wins on the late models second night of racing in 2014, Sam Yarborough is the new point leader over Matt Cox who trails by 16.
