HOT TIP (July 17, 2013) SELLING A SPEC SCRIPT… (“I need a Writer’s Agent”) (For all Hot Tips go “MOVIE CLOUD” & “LIKE”) -------------------------------------------- SPEC SCRIPT SALES: First question to ask is “What does SPEC mean”? I bet that 99.5% of you don’t actually know…However, you want an agent to sell your script in the “Spec Marketplace”. Duh! It’s actually quite obvious. When you write a screenplay (25 page Sitcom, 50 page one-hour TV-Drama, 90-page Low-Budget Feature, 100-120 Page Indie Feature or a 110-140 page Studio Feature), and you write it FOR FREE, which means no one is paying you to write it… then you are writing a script on “Speculation” (aka: you are “Speculating” that someone someday will buy it or you might get it financed). Spec Script… means you wrote it FOR FREE ….and now want to either (A) Sell It or (B) Finance it. On to the next step: Now you want to sell it. But you’ve heard that the Spec Market place is not as good as it was 10, 20, 30 years ago. And, to sell it (which means you will probably get a 3-4 year Option Agreement, assuming it sells) you need a proper Agent. Therefore, let me give you a list of LITERARY AGENTS at just one of the Big 7 Agencies that no (A) Who is Buying, (B) Who is merely talking about Buying, and (C) what are the real buyers Paying.
