HOT TIP (June 11, 2013) INDIE FILM DISTRIBUTORS (Part 1)… (“Who NOT TO Go With”) (For all Hot Tips go “MOVIE CLOUD” & “LIKE”) -------------------------------------------- FILM DISTRIBUTORS for Independents, who are not yet famous or possess a marketable name are….. Who to reach out to? Who to get? How to get? These are all relevant questions when you spent the last 18 months taking your dream from idea, to script, to financing, to shooting, to editing, to marketing, to….When you know the answer is “You need a Distributor”. First, Who Not To Go With: The big distributors, sometimes called “The Majors” or “The BIG 6” (Warner Bros, Paramount, Disney, Sony, 20th, Paramount) make money, with a massive overhead by distributing a feature film in America with 2,000-5,000 prints or projections…and globally with 15,000-20,000 prints or projections…. Thus, trying to get a Major Distributor to see your film, like it, and make a deal with you to distribute will not be realistic. You need to find a distributor who can make a profit with a 15-20 print release in North America (USA/Canada), in the top 810 North American cities, and then, once they’ve created a perceived value, by covering at least 65% of America with ads in the local newspapers that this is a Movie, and it costs $10-$12 to look at; then they’ll be able to make a Profit from the secondary revenues streams like On-Demand, Pay-Per-View, DVD, Cable, etc. Let me help you in your search for a distributor but giving you a list of the smaller ones that know how to do this and are willing to work with you, assuming your film has (A) merit and (B) is marketable. First a list of Distributors that have come-and-gone so you are weary about who you partner with that they (A) don’t take the money and then (B) disappear. This “Be Careful”, they had a couple of year of good B*llsh*t, Distributors Graveyard is… 1. American Film Theatre 2. American Home Entertainment 3. Aquarius 4. Artisan Entertainment 5. They’re all gone. Tomorrow’s Hot Tip I’ll give you a list of the smaller distributors, that specialize in Independent Films, that are still alive and, with the advent of the ON-DEMAND world showing new revenues, could be a perfect fit for your project.
