HOUSING IN ZAMFARA The performance of Zamfara State Government in this all important sector is summarily ZERO. At a time when some states are boasting of housing programmes with 1000, 2000, 3000 units, the Government of my state cannot show trivial 100 units. NARROW MINDEDNESS I am afraid; the state may wrongly assume that its number one enemies, civil servants, are the only beneficiaries of housing projects. If this is the thinking, I would like the government to note other benefits thus: expansion of the city, provision of affordable accommodation to the teaming populace, creation of employment by massive purchase of cement and other inputs as well as demand in the services of masons, painters, carpenters, electricians…. Can you see the spread in monetary circulation contrary to our billions that go in the FEW hands of CHINESE and LEBANESE? REFRESHING OUR MEMORIES The previous governments have performed reasonably well in this respect. In spite of the poor quality of Gidan Dawa and Damba housing, Yarima could be commended here. The enviable Commissioners Quarters and the completed but yet-to-be-allocated housing programmes of MAS Government in collaboration with MAIKAB are great achievements in this sector. If an old state like Sokoto is hugely investing in housing, a young state like Zamfara ought to do more. After all, shelter is one of the basic human needs. The revolution in the PERSONAL houses of politicians in the state after winning elections is enough testimony to their understanding of this.
