HOW ALLAH SPEAKS TO YOU Past few days I was making Dua to Allah for something and I was quite persistent about it. As the time passed I started getting a little disappointed, and the feeling was something like, I am praying for so long and if Allah had given me what I asked for what would He lose..?! It costs Him nothing but He isnt answering.. When the time for Maghrib came, I reached Masjid and joined the first Rakaah when the Imam was reciting the last Ayah after which He went to Ruku and the Ayah which He recited shocked me and I felt as if Allah is replying me. And the Ayah was: وَآتَاكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَإِن تَعُدُّوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّـهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَا ۗ إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَظَلُومٌ كَفَّارٌ * ابراهيم And He gave you from all you asked of Him. And if you should count the favor of Allah, you could not count them. Indeed, man is most unjust and ungrateful. (14:34) When the words went into my ear, they reminded me all the previous Duas which I made and how Allah miraculously answered those... And that moment I realized Allah wants me to be patient at the moment and He did not like my way... I usually think when Prophets would get into trouble or feel like they are lost, Allah would reply to them and give them hope. And this wasnt only with the Prophets but with the companions as well as they would go to the Prophets and Prophets would tell them what Allah is saying to them. But what about us? How do we know consciously apart from circumstances made by Allah, what He wants us to do in a certain situation? when we make Dua how do we know His answer when there can be many answers, how can we be specific? Well there are many ways and the most obvious one is a true dream as mentioned in the Hadith. But obviously it can be a strong indication as well, and it is usually something that brings with it confidence and expansion of heart. Therefore, be conscious of your surroundings and try to focus on Quranic Ayaat that you come across in your prayers, in your listening and reading and suddenly you will realize, Oh! thats it...! He will speak to you...! He knows how much we need Him and how to reach us... Remember when Musa A.Ss mother was confused about her son; what to do with him in order to protect him from Phiroun and his men. She was constantly praying to Allah to guide her and Allah says in Surah Qasas that He inspired her to keep him in a wooden box and let it flow down the river: أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَرْضِعِيهِ ۖ فَإِذَا خِفْتِ عَلَيْهِ فَأَلْقِيهِ فِي الْيَمِّ وَلَا تَخَافِي وَلَا تَحْزَنِي ۖ إِنَّا رَادُّوهُ إِلَيْكِ وَجَاعِلُوهُ مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ * القصص And We inspired to the mother of Moses, Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers. [28:7] The words used here are Wahi which does not mean that an angel came to him, it could have been - as mufassiroon said - a true dream, an indication that expanded her heart i.e. rendered relaxation and confidence, etc. And Allah knows Best!
