HOW ANC IS KILLING ITS OWN AS DOG NYAM DOG South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC)’s politics has become a theater of political assassinations and other forms of physical violence, SA’s Business Day Live newspaper reports. In an opinion piece Cape Town-based analyst, Gareth van Onselen, notes that political assassinations and other forms of physical violence “have increased during the last five years” following “the fundamental schism that has fractured every element of public life since the ANC’s 2007 elective conference in Polokwane”. The assassinations are indicative of deep-rooted divisions and discontent which have come to characterize internal ANC politics lately. Following reports of deep-rooted confrontations within our own SWAPO Party as manifested by the factionalization within its youth wing and recent media reports that Prime Minister Hage Geingob and SWAPO Party Vice-President was or is still a target of assassination plots, are there reasons to fear that ANC’s political assassinations might spill over to Namibia’s post-independence politics with specific reference to intra-party violence where dog nyams dog?
