HOW CAN THE ABDUCTED GIRLS BE RESCUED? Before I ask for help on the above question, I can think of the following scenarios: 1. Negotiation: As suggested by Comrade Shehu Sani, the government should negotiate the girls freedom with the terrorists using some clerics. But, would Boko Haram listen to any cleric? How can the channel of communication be opened with the terrorists? Who has their phone numbers? Have the terrorists asked for ransom? From whom? Is it possible that BH had anticipated a decisive onslaught on their Sambisa camps by the military, and is now using the hostages as human shield and as a bait for negotiation? 2. Raiding Sambisa Forest: This option is fraught with real danger of not getting the girls alive if we reckon with histories of previous disastrous attempts to rescue BH hostages, especially foreigners, including the one authorized by the British Prime Minister. In the event of a military attack, terrorists may kill their hostages. God forbid! While Boko Haram members were in Maiduguri, a fellow had summoned the courage to ask one of them why they were waging a futile campaign against their own people and their own government. His answer: whether we fight or not, we are being hunted and killed; why not fight and die in the cause of God?! 3.BH surrender following a prolonged siege on the Sambisa Forest without attacking: As there is a limit to which BH can hold out if all entries and exits to the forest camps are blocked by the military, would BH surrender and get arrested peacefully? 4. Voluntary release of the girls by BH: By a miracle, the normally heartless beasts may have an abnormal change of heart and voluntarily release our sisters. This may also come due to pressure from the national and international outrage so far expressed. BH can also run out of food and simply ask the hostages to leave. Perhaps government is banking on this possibility since it has sought to defuse tension and buy time by forming a committee! Considering terrorists love for spectacles, would they voluntarily release our girls? May the girls be brought back safe and sound.
