HOW CONTROVERSIAL ARE YOU? BY DESTINY IHUOMA CHINENYE OPARAH(Ms).9/11/2014. During my teen years , l met a fellow who once chided me in this very words, ihuoma , the problem that you have is that you cannot handle success. l have not been able to forget this reprimand nor the circumstance surrounding it. l have since then matured and developed sufficently to now handle success and successful people alike. Every success story is surrounded by controversy and initially l had not been able to accept this . l had always hurt when people had talked about me in the negative and l had wondered why they did that. Nowadays l have taken this in my stride as part of the indices of success. lf you are not doing something worthwhile , then no one will bother to talk about you afterall , you will be like every other person around you, that is the way people love it to be. But once you are able to distinguish yourself , people will rise up and want to pull you down to their level. l have always chided some of my friends , to be careful who they tie up with , because , if you link up with persona non gratas , they will make sure that they take you along with them to their destination of nowhere. l spent four years in the University of Lagos Akoka , Nigeria , where l studied English Language and Education, double honours degree and graduated . l spent my personal study time with writer breau London , honing my skills in writing , l spent time training in secretrial studies so that l could type effectively , before venturing out to write. While these training peroid lasted , no one criticized me , no one knew the labour and energy involved in producing a work of art , the types which l have authored, Today many indolent persons wants to lay claim to my works as though l simple copied them from somewhere and they are not pure creativity on display. Today speculations are rife , as to whether l could have produced these works of art hence the controversy. Friends, ignore distractors who are idle , indolent and of no consequence at all to where you are headed towards. Please keep focus at what skills you have and continue to push it until your efforts are crowned with success. My books will soon be on display . The novels--- The tonic, The girl called Fatima , and My Anthology of poems...l am sure that you are looking forward to its launch. l also wish you resounding success in your choosen career . but please be positively Controversial. its an indication that you are going somewhere good.
