HOW THE IMO STATE GOVERNMENT MAY SPREAD EBOLA TO ITS - TopicsExpress

HOW THE IMO STATE GOVERNMENT MAY SPREAD EBOLA TO ITS CITIZENS Since the birth of this republic in 1999, one thing Imo people have had better than any other State in this country is environmental cleanliness. We may accuse the governments of Chiefs Achike Udenwa and Ikedi Godson Ohakim of every other thing but we cannot deny the fact that they made sure that Imo State was clean and beautiful during their days in power. Ikedi Ohakim was exceptional in this regard as he invested a lot in ensuring that we had a good and beautiful environment in line with Spiritual and medical recommendations. Through ENTRACO and other agencies of government, Ikedi ohakim ensured that our streets and even our compounds were kept clean and hygienic all day round. This is commendable, for a healthy environment guarantees healthy living and a healthy citizenry is a wealthy citizenry. There is no better thing that you can give to a society than good health and an opportunity to thrive. Without mincing words and being conscious of the bullets and persecutions of the Owelle Rochas Okorocha administration, let me say it that this government has failed in meeting the most fundamental needs of the people. With the rampaging ebola virus which has come into Nigeria and taken a recorded life (Many others could be dying in the villages as a result of this virus, without it been known). We must call the attention of the government to the smelly heaps of refuse that litter every corner of the State. While it has not been said that ebola is a vector disease, I do not need any health expert to tell me that sanitation is crucial to the fight against ebola outbreak. With environments as dirty as the ones we have in Imo State at present, there is no doubt that this government has placed us in a situation where we may be exterminated by this virus, if it dares cross into the State. Nothing can be overemphasized about the destructive implications of an unsanitary environment. Now that Imo State has turned to one smelly heap of refuse under the nose of our dear Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, we stand the risk of losing both future and present leaders to the grim hands of ebola and killer diseases that are linked to dirtiness of the environment. We are steadily confronted with the sights of stagnant water, choked gutters, overflowing waste bins, littered public places and filthy markets, and these are like time bombs waiting to explode on our heads, while our Governor and his aides look the other way. Let those who love the Governor, tell him that Imo needs a clean environment, now more than at any other time. Let him be reminded that timeliness is prime to the safeguarding of our lives. I know that the outbreak of this ebola virus will provide an opportunity for him to retire some money by embarking on his usual theatrics in the guise of enlightening the people on the dangers of the ebola virus. However, he must be told that there is no better way to campaign against the possible outbreak of ebola than clearing our streets of refuse and ensuring adequate hygiene in all public places. There is every need for ENTRACO to be resurrected. I am hearing that our Governors cousin has sold off ENTRACO and pocketed all the returns, leaving Imolites to the dangers of swimming in dirt. IMO GA ADI MMA OZO!
