HOW TO BE A DIAL TONE Shooting Aug 1-10th in Austin, TX Rehearsal July 12th and 13th paid t/MFA Thesis film/low-budget Looking for TRANSLATORS AND THOSE FLUENT IN AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE to audition for signing roles for award-winning Austin based filmmaker Lauren Kinsler’s MFA Thesis film, “HOW TO BE A DIAL TONE”. Kinsler’s films have played around the country including SXSW and Sarasota Film Festival. This film is part of a feature that she plans to make in the next year. ABOUT “HOW TO BE A DIAL TONE”: Sylvia enjoys her job, making phone calls for Deaf people in her tec’d out cubicle, with her motley crew of co-workers, but when a new monitoring device is introduced, she must choose to follow the rules or defiantly be herself. CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS *These roles do not require dialogue but DO require signing! PAUL, deaf, 45-55 y.o., big man, happy, makes jokes, became deaf in his twenties. RUTH, deaf, 12-15 y.o., teenage girl. Bubbly, outgoing personality. Into technology and the internet. LAURIE, deaf, 30-40, gay, stressed out because of recent job loss. MARK, 25-35, deaf, mohawk or wild hair, happy guy although recently broke up with girlfriend. TEENAGERS, deaf, 15-18 y.o. 3 or 4 teenagers who play jokes on the interpreter. BELLA, deaf, 65-80 y.o., has a dog or cat, happy woman.
