HOW TO MAKE THE CHEAPEST BULLETPROOF COFFEE IN AUSTRALIA This post describes how to prepare Bulletproof Coffee (BPC) in Australia for an all-in cost per serve of A$1.50, with ingredients sourced from Woolworths and iHerb. When compared to the best alternative option of purchasing ‘Upgraded’ products online, my method saves A$270 to A$700 per annum. Introduction to BPC BPC is a delicious, energising and satisfying cup of coffee developed by Dave Asprey of the Bulletproof Executive. BPC has been shown to boost cognition, kick start weight loss and keep one satisfied and satiated with no food cravings for well over five hours. This post is not a recipe – it simply describes the cheapest way to prepared BPC in Australia. Further details about BPC, including recipe and scientific rationale can be found on Dave’s website. The three ingredients for making BPC are: Coffee .. - Macro , Peruvian ground coffee Single origin beans grown at altitude (to mitigate mycotoxicity); Butter .. - Western Star, cultured and unsalted Full fat, unsalted grass fed butter (why grass fed is key); and - MCT Oil - (brain octane) - NOW Foods, MCT Oil (iHerb) Medium Chain Triglyceride oil ‘Upgraded coffee’ and ‘Upgraded MCT oil’ are products sold by Dave via his Upgradedself website and OptimOz, an Australian based affiliate. These produces are 100% BPC compliant . While I’m in favour of supporting these sites as they perpetuate BPC goodness, i’m also interested in finding the most cost effective way of preparing BPC to make it more accessible to the masses. I’ve sourced coffee and butter from Woolworths which are not only suitable for BPC, but are damn cheap as well! I’ve also tracked down the cheapest source of MCT oil for Australians (even after factoring in shipping to AUS). Based on my calculations, by purchasing the ingredients I suggest you would save $270 to $700 p.a. relative to someone purchasing ‘Upgraded’ products. I heat water using an electronic kettle, and place 3 tablespoons of ground coffee into a French Press. After pouring over the hot water, I leave the French Press to sit for ~10 mins. Separately, I place ~50g of butter and 2 tablespoons of MCT Oil into a 530ml Stanley Utility Vacuum Stainless-Steel Food Jar (purchased from Big W for $25). I pour the brewed coffee from the French Press into the Stanley Food Jar, close the lid and shake vigorously for 2-3mins (until all the butter has melted and the coffee has a creamy, latte like consistency). This supplements as my breakfast and I often go 5-6 hrs before eating my first ‘proper’ meal (typically just meat and veggies at around 1-2pm).
