HOW TO SHOP WISELY [ This has been adopted from a discussion we had at a certain organization during training on On the Money, an Old Mutual Program I thought It could help others especially with the Christmas season] 1. Ask yourself the age old question: Do I need this or do I want this? 2. How many times will you use/wear it? If the answer is not a lot, then think again. 3. Be very conscious and think through when you want to buy something that will blow almost all your money, you may buy fast and regret slowly later. 4. Before going to the shops, make a list of all of the items that you want to buy and stick to the list, unless you missed something very essential 5. Where possible buy in bulk, Metro shops and others usually sell lower prices for those buying in bulk. It also saves you on frequent trips to shops for the same item. 6. Make sure you buy from shops that sell cheaper for the same products, - In Malawi, Chipiku, Sana & Ntonga are well known for lower prices for groceries. - Shoprite(Blantyre) sell chicken at a better price than most - For some of you in nearby places- Zingwangwa Burundians sell quality rice at a much lower price than the one you buy on credit in offices. 7. Do not just purchase items that are on sale that you normally would not purchase, whether it is groceries, electronics, clothes or whatever it is. First, ask yourself, is this within your budget and is this something that you definitely need now or something that you need a new one of. 8. If, at the end of the day, you still have some money, dont spend it for the sake of it, keep it for next time, that way you can save up for something else.
