HP India to supply 15 lakh laptops to UP by mid-Sept NEW DELHI, AUG. 26: Personal computer and hardware manufacturer, Hewlett Packard (HP) India on Monday said the company’s will supply 15 lakh laptops to the Uttar Pradesh Government, by middle of next month, as per the set deadline. The company said it has delivered 11 lakh units till now, which the UP Government has distributed among students who pass high-school. Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, had promised to distribute the laptops to students during his campaign for Assembly polls last year. The cost of the total project comes to around Rs 2,850 crore for which HP India has been paid as per the delivery cycles. The cost of each laptop comes to around Rs 19,100. “The payment is on time. We have received the amount for all deliveries that we have made till now and we will deliver the rest of the lot by September 15,” Rajiv Srivastava, President - printers and personal systems, HP India, told reporters here. The deal was signed in February and accordingly HP India had started delivering the laptops since March. He said more of such projects are expected in future and the company will bid in each project in different states. The company has also recently been awarded the majority share of the Rajasthan Government’s scheme to distribute laptops to qualified students. TN PROJECT “The next phase of Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd project is also expected to start from next month and we will bid for it,” he said. Srivastava said the company will keep launching new innovative PCs as well as printers. The company will launch at least 15 products each in printers and PC categories in the coming year. “We will launch some new products next month including tablet PCs,” Vinay Awasthi, Senior Director - personal systems, HP India said. The new product lines that will be launched would range at sub-Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000 and above, he added. According to a recent IDC report, HP India is number one vendor of PC and printers. The IDC Asia Pacific Quarterly PC Tracker report said that HP’s PC market share stood at 34.1 per cent in second quarter this year out of the total 35.3 lakh units shipped to India.
