HRW slams Myanmars plan to segregate ROHINGYA Published on 3 Oct 2014The Human Rights Watch has warned that Myanmars Rohingya Muslims could face permanent statelessness if a new government policy to designate them as Bengali moves ahead. The HRW says the governments Rakhine State Action Plan could force Rohingya Muslims to adopt a new ethnicity and permanently segregates them to closed camps. It says the plan would entrench discriminatory policies that deprive Rohingya Muslims of citizenship and lead to the forced resettlement of over 130-thousand displaced people. The Human Rights Watch also criticized the references made in the plan for the Rohingyas as inaccurate and derogatory. The United Nations recognizes Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims as one of the worlds most persecuted communities. The Rohingyas have faced torture, neglect, and repression since the countrys independence in 1948.
