HUGE win for University (5-1, 1-0) tonight over River Oaks (3-3, 1-0) by a score of 26-20. The Lions ground out the win with a ball control run game which is something foreign to the Lions in recent years. The Lions were lead by Jeremiah Jefferson 12 carries 116 yds and 2 TDs. Zach Rhone had 12 carries 87yds and a big score with 39 seconds left in the game to give the Lions the lead. Eli had 11 carries 70yds, most of which were up the middle. Zach Rhone also had 3 catches for 25yds and a 74yd kickoff return for a TD. He finished the night with 186 total yards and 2 TDs. The defense held big on crucial plays in the 2nd half holding River Oaks to 66yds on offense. Cory Hampton had 17 tackles to lead the Lions. Jon Kelly had 12 tackles and a pass breakup. Dre Simon had 8 tackles. Eli had 7 tackles with an INT. Cody Crews had 5 tackles. Richard Cumby had 5 tackles and 1 sack. Great game to get back in track guys. Next week University travels to Claiborne for District 8A action. Make the trip to Haynesville to cheer the Lions to victory. This game could clinch the District Championship for either team.
