HUMAN NATURE 101... I belong to a fun little group that celebrates - TopicsExpress

HUMAN NATURE 101... I belong to a fun little group that celebrates a Southern California town where I grew up and went to high school. Ive had a good time reminiscing... and Ive actually met (and re-met!) a lot of old friends online. Ive known the woman who started the group for nearly forty years. Like me, shes had health woes, but she seems to be doing well... starting this page, and watching its popularity grow, has been very good for her. She and several other friends contributed to the giant RocknRoll reunion we had several months ago where one of my old groups reunited for the first time in forty years. All good stuff! One of the reasons that I love Facebook (and you know I do!) is, I figure, there just arent that many rules. I post something on my page... some will agree and some wont... and if you want to speak your mind about it... go ahead. Its fun, right? You just sort out whos an a-hole and who isnt and we all know where we stand. Well... Here on my old high school page, an old friend started dating one of our pages founders friends. Apparently, theres a problem with that. Never mind that all participants are over the age of 50 (when youd think you could pretty much do what you want - within reason!)... theres a problem. So after having a public (in person!) drunken screaming match one evening with MY friend, our founder has decided that some things *I* post arent appropriate for her group... we have talks about Lincoln Logs, old TV cartoons, postage stamps, endless talk about restaurants... but my bringing up a future coffee bar in Monrovia that I figure folks that still live in the area would enjoy, falls OUTSIDE her, now-strict, parameters, and she removes it and sends me a chastising personal note. So shes mad at me... because of him... and he and she dating.... and rules rules RULES... are you following? Its just like being back in HIGH SCHOOL!!! I dont want to go back! Im almost 58 years old, for Gods sake... !!! Besides, poor Mrs Landis is long dead and Id have a hell of a time faking a hall pass and/or absence excuse. That bridge has been burned! I just recovered my high school yearbooks from my storage shed over the weekend. Im going to find a photo of Mrs. Landis and post it. If its a good one, I may just use it for my profile picture... in tribute. I spent many an idle school day afternoon at the miniature golf course (playing pinball!), listening to records on the juke box at the music shop and eating Thrifties triple-decker ice cream cones thanks to her!
