HUMOUR IN UNIFORM A new arrival, an old looking soldier, was marched up to the CO who was generally very curt in his dealings at the Staff parade. “ Kya naam hai ?” (What is ypur name?) “Hav Fatu Ram shreeman.” (Havildar Fatu Ram sir) “Kya rank hai?” (What is your rank) “ Havildar shreeman.” (Havildar (Sergeant) sir ) “Kya trade hai ?” (What is your trade) “ Driver MT shreeman.” (Driver Mechanical Transport sir) “Class ?” (What classification) “Class One shreeman.” (Classification one sie) “ Gaadi chalaya ?” (Have you driven vehicles) “ Haan shreeman.” (Yes sir) “Kitna chalaya hai ?” (How much) “ Bahoot chalaya hai shreeman.” ( A lot sir) “500 Kilometer kiya hoga ?” (Would you have done 500 Kms?) The veteran Havildar could not resist smiling and replied, “Saab, itna to main REVERSE Gear mein hi kiya hoga !!” (Sir, I suppose this much I must have done iwith my REVERSE gear itself!) =========== Sergeant : “ Four guys interested in music raise your hands.” On seeing the volunteers, Sergeant : “Over to the Commanding Officer’s house to shift his piano !” =============== A soldier was cutting grass when the inspecting General asked him, “What are you doing son?” “I am cutting grass Sir” replied smartly the soldier. “What would you do it was war?” asked the General. Thinking that the matter was grave, the soldier thought for a moment and said, “I suppose I would cut grass faster Sir!” ==================== After a two day well participated administrative sand model exercise on how to cut the Tooth-to-Tail ratio, the conducting staff was concluding the exercise when he noticed a Capt of the Ordnance Corps had not spoken a single word during the two days of deliberation. Wanting his opinion asked him, “ Tell me young man, what have you understood from this whole exercise?” The Capt stood up, straightened up, thought for a while and replied, “Sir, the only thing I have understood from this exercise is that, when your Teeth has nothing better to do, it starts biting its own Tail !”
