*HURRICANE ARTHUR UPDATE #5* Good morning, and happy July 4th! Hurricane Arthur is now a category two hurricane, with wind speeds reaching over 100mph. Widespread rain showers and occasional lightning strikes are likely later this morning and afternoon. Rain may be moderate to heavy at times, especially late this morning into the late afternoon. Rainfall of 0.50-1.25, with local amounts topping 2, is possible from 8am-11pm today. The highest amounts are expected across eastern Suffolk County. There is a risk for standing water and minor flooding in the urban areas of New York City and Long Island through this afternoon, and across all other areas today that see the higher rainfall amounts. Winds will be northeast-northeast to North-northwest at 8-16 mph, with gusts up to 20-25 mph late in the day. A few wind gusts up to 35-40 mph are possible in far eastern Suffolk County from 10pm Fri-5am Sat.
