HURRY UP, GOD! By Bishop Alfred Owens Psalm 70:1-5 MAKE HASTE, O GOD, TO DELIVER ME; MAKE HASTE TO HELP ME, O LORD. Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt. Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha. Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying. In the above illustrated scripture, David is frustrated at the fact that God had not come to his rescue. He (David) is at a mindset that God does not know what he is going through and that he (God) was running late! Have you ever needed God in a hurry and he didn’t show up when you wanted him to? A good example is Martha’s serious attitude with Jesus when he arrived “after” Lazarus’ funeral. She said to him “If you had been here my brother wouldn’t have died!” At times, you have to wonder “Is God always on time?????” Beloved, we must realize that God is sovereign and can do “what” he wants “when” he wants. Job said “all the days of my appointed time I will wait till my change comes”. God waits until that time when we can’t thank anyone but him. His ways are not our ways. We just have to “wait” on him. God allows you to go through some changes before he delivers you. You’ll never appreciate “up” until you’ve been “down”. Praise him for your ordered “stops” and not only for your ordered “steps”. God does not get upset with us praying to him saying “hurry up, God!” because he knows nobody likes tests and trials. Beloved, what do you do when God doesn’t “hurry up”? What do when you’ve prayed and stayed and it seems he hasn’t answered you? What do you do when it appears as though your prayers have not been answered? The entire message has been posted on my blog.
