Ive been at this microphone for 50 years.... -- William OShaughnessy New Rochelle--Oct. 28...For the first time in 50 years, New Rochelles WVOX radio is making an endorsement -- for Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. The historic endorsement was made during a radio interview between County Executive Astorino and William OShaughnessy, President & CEO of Whitney Radio, the parent company of WVOX. Mr. OShaughnessy, a former president of the New York State Broadcasters Association, was chairman of Public Affairs for the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington. He has been a point man and advocate for the broadcasters of America on First Amendment and Free Speech issues, and is presently chairman of the Guardian Fund of the Broadcasters Foundation of America. He operates two of the last independent stations in the New York area: WVOX and WVIP. Rob Astorino, Ive never done this before, Mr. OShaughnessy said. Ive been at this microphone for 50 years. You havent got all the endorsements youre going to get. This radio station has been involved in politics and poker for 50 years. And I am pleased to announce at this moment that Noam Bramsons hometown station is going to endorse Rob Astorino. Ive been listening to WVOX all my life, so its a special honor to receive this historic endorsement, County Executive Astorino said. I know WVOX doesnt endorse candidates, so I was almost speechless when Bill OShaughnessy said the words.
