Ha ha, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you to the Academy for this, all 6000 members. To the other nominees; all these performances were impeccable, in my opinion. I didnt see a false note anywhere. I want to thank Jean Marc Vallee, my director, I want to thank Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner, whom I worked with daily. There are a few things -- there are three things -- to my account that I need each day: one of them is something to look up to, another is something to look forward to and another is someone to chase. Now, first off I wanna thank God, because thats who I look up to. Hes graced my life with opportunities that I know werent of my end or of human end, and Hes shown me that its a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton, When you got God you got a friend, and that friend is you. To my family, thats who and what I look forward to. To my father who I know is up there right now, with a big pot of gumbo, hes got a lemon meringue pie right there, hes probably in his underwear, and hes got a cold can of Miller Lite. Hes dancing right now. To you Dad, you taught me to be a man. To my mother, who’s here tonight, who taught me and my two brothers, demanded that we respect ourselves. And what we in turn learned was that we were better able to respect others. To my wife Camilla and my kids, the courage and significance you give me every day I go out is unparalleled; you are the four people in my life I want to make the most proud of me. Thank you. And to my hero. Thats who I chase. Now when I was 15 years old, I had a very important person in my life ask who’s your hero? and I said Lemme think about that, give me a couple of weeks. I come back two weeks later, this person says who your hero? and I said, I thought about that, you know who it is? It’s me in ten years. So I turned 25 and that same person asked me So are you your hero? And I said Not even close, no no no. She said Why? and I said My hero is me at 35. So you see every day, every week, every month and every year of my life, my hero is always ten years away. Im never going to beat my hero, Im not going to attain that. And Im fine with that ‘cause that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing. So to any of us, whatever those things are we look up to, whatever it is we look forward to and whoever it is were chasin, to that I say amen (thumps chest); to that I say Alright, alright, alright. thank you what a speech from mathew, and what a performance for Dallas buyers club, you truly deserve it!
