Original version of the song was by Ayinde Bakare and reproduced by Kayode Fashola. Specifically, on the day, while the nation was caught in the frenzy of festivities of the independence anniversary, Bakare led his Meranda Band to play at a wedding party on Isale-Gangan Street, Central Lagos in October 1972. The band had played for the first session and thereafter went on a short break. Shortly before the band reconvened for the second session, Bakare was invited to the backstage by some unknown individuals who pretended to be his fans and admirers and thereafter he disappeared. His torso was later discovered in the Lagos lagoon. Kayode Fashola took over the band after his demise and changed the bands name to music makers.
