It was true that nearly anyone in his life with the exception of his family could be replaced. It really was. That replacement could turn out to be unbearable, however, or grossly unsatisfactory compared to what he may have had once before. It was a crap shoot. Perusing the panorama of possibility was a sometimes powerfully persuasive notion, but it only offered insufficient glimpses of a plethora of potential partners and much too often, precious time was omitted from the overhead expenses. Time was indeed a very quantifiable cost and while he considered it foolish to settle, playing slave to a lofty set of standards was feebleminded at best, not to mention a bit quixotic considering he had not come close to measuring up to the lofty standards he set for himself. He didn’t feel it should have taken losing who he once had to make him want her forever. The new and unknown possessed a different type of appeal than the familiar and tried and true and that appeal often introduced pitfalls both men and women tumbled into ass over teakettle, time and time again. Which left him to believe that in the minds of habitual tumblers and pitfall victims the thrill of the chase was held in a much higher regard than the chase’s denouement.
