Hack My Route-Cycling and Mobility Open Data Challenge Open data - TopicsExpress

Hack My Route-Cycling and Mobility Open Data Challenge Open data has been described as the ‘new raw material of the twenty first century’ and has the potential to unleash economic and social benefits if made freely available. To test this concept the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) and Leeds City Council (LCC) are sponsoring Open Data Institute Leeds’ (ODI) Cycling and Mobility challenge called ‘Hack My Route’. The purpose of the challenge is to involve anyone with an interest in this subject which could be, cyclists, drivers, programmers, developers and coders to work on a prototype for displaying cycle routes, bridleways, public right of ways and cycling accident black spots in a single place using open data from Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and other data sources. The challenge ‘Hack My Route’ includes lunchtime lectures during January to generate interest and to establish the open data sets available for the project. This will be followed by a Data Dive event over the 6th & 7th February allowing programmers and developers to produce concepts for an application to consume the data. The winning team from the Data Dive event will receive funding to develop their prototype into a working service.
