Had 5essay to write through these past few we3ks Had to juice Em I must admit I defiantly laid it down Heres one Growing up ,throughout my younger years my family would make a soup out of squash. this soup was very tasty ,very flavorful something thats filling and hearty. A soup that sticks to your ribs and will have you content throughout the day. So growing up they would make this soup every year, to bring in the new year they would say its for good luck. I would hear this and say yea yea yea what ever until one day when I was told the history behind the reason we eat squash soup. In Haiti back when slavery existed Haiti was a major port for countries through the canal like Jamaica,Cuba,America. So this is place where they would bring slaves to dock before they went to there intended places to be bought and put to work. Back in this day the country of Haiti was predominantly white, and majority of them were royalty or people well off with imports from what they grew on their land. But of corse the people who tended to the land that made all the money that the country seen were the slaves. The majority of the slave owners would have slaves tend to the gardens and take care of the household duties cooking cleaning and general household maintaining.one of the main vegetable that was grown in gardens throughout the country was squash, with this squash they would make a soup a soup they said was for white people or plain just people of royalty. Now comes to the Haitian revaluation where it seems as if the African slaves have had enough of working for free or low pay, they came up with a plan to overthrow the government,as to where they wouldnt work for free and for everyone throughout the country would have equal rights ,this of corse did not sit well with the white people or the wealthy people they were unsure of the repercussion of letting blacks have equal rights in their country. The Haitian revolution was the reason Haiti was the first to abolish slavery throughout the Country, As a reward all the slaves ran out into the gardens and pick the squash that was reserved for white people and royalty and they made soup, the soup that was so called unfit for their kind. From their this was now the tradition to bring in every year with the special squash soup so in hindsight this soup symbolized freedom and equality so this made me enjoy the soup so much more.
