Had Enough Yet? ILA has of Waterfront Commission. Waterfront Commission newest scam is distributing brochure around the Docks of New Jersey and New York asking ILA members to do the job WC has failed at over 60 Years. ILA Has Had Code of Ethics and Judge Milton Mollen for over 10 Years. Read Harold Daggetts letter to ILA members in Port of New York and New Jersey criticizing Waterfront Commission brochure: November 5, 2013. Dear ILA Member: Recently, the Waterfront Commission (WC) of New York Harbor distributed a brochure at port facilities throughout the Port of New York and New Jersey entitled “Had Enough”. Clearly, the brochure, which described how the WC is committed to eliminating crime and corruption in the Port of New York and New Jersey represents another attempt by this tired and ineffective agency to attack your union, try to weaken its ability to represent you in Contract Negotiations and continue to interfere with our collective bargaining agreement with New York Shipping Association. • Waterfront Commission brochure is an insult to every hardworking and honest ILA members in Port of New York and New Jersey. • Waterfront Commission is costly and its policing roles are performed much more efficiently and professionally by Port Authority Police, U.S. Customs, U.S. Coast Guard, Homeland Security and the local police forces throughout our region. • ILA Believes in Reform and Running a Clean Union - Judge Milton Mollen has been our Ethical Practice Counsel for over 10 years – We have Code of Ethics. • Waterfront Commission has failed in helping Port of New York and New Jersey grow and thrive. Its cost to industry? Millions of dollars wasted each year for over 60 years. • The ILA and New York Shipping Association are currently fighting the Waterfront Commission’s interference in our Collective Bargaining Agreement that calls for the hiring of hundreds of new longshore workers and checkers. • We believe in diversity and embrace a two-year old program we have with NYSA to offer a certain number of new jobs to returning U.S. Veterans. • ILA negotiated new six-year contract with NYSA and Metropolitan Marine Maintenance with clear understanding that the ILA and NYSA would control the recruitment, referral, selection, hiring, and training of new employees. • We are asking for your help in this matter to write your State Governor (Chris Christie in New Jersey and Andrew Cuomo in New York) to have them direct the Waterfront Commission to discontinue interfering in our Collective Bargaining Agreement. Together, we can enjoy a bright and prosperous future as members of the International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO. Fraternally, Harold J. Daggett President
