Had a 14-year old girl from rural Louisiana, audition for my art program this week. In her portfolio she had paintings influenced by the work of Mark Bradford AND Laura Owens. She didnt know anything about them or CalArts, just saw their stuff on instagram. I thought to myself, WOW, amazing how resourceful kids are these days. Living in the middle of nowhere, with no art program at their school, trying to teach themselves about contemporary art. By the end of the interview, she didnt want to leave the studio and I hope to see her again in the Fall so I can help her out. #Iloveteachingart
