Had a GS500 race bike come in, (not the one in the pic but thought it was a cool example of the same thing) for some chassis related work but threw the scope on the plug leads just out of curiosity. I discovered there is a very pronounced issue with CYL#2. A quick check of the spark plugs revealed some issues straight away. They are both old in appearance and a littel sooted up but noticibly the centre electrode on the problem cylinder is much more worn away than the other. A quick clean and re-gap and swapping the plugs over to see if the problem moves. To my surprise the fault stays with cyl#2. Perhaps this plug wear is a symptom of another fault. I manually checked the resistance of the coils and plug leads and caps, to find they were all within spec. I then ran the bike whilse recording and watched the display as i moved the plug wire on the problem cylinder. There we have it, as i move the plug wire the fault gets worse and better on the screen,(i have tried to attach an animated file so you can see the live footage). I will investigate this one a little furhter but at this stage would recommend new plugs, caps and leads for this one and hope that there is no damage to the coil for this cylinder from the overloading.
