Had a blast last night at Speyer Legacy School in New York, launching their Speaker Series and talking to teachers and parents. Earlier in the day, I visited 4th, 5th, and 6th grades to talk about symmetry, topology, and higher dimensions. The kids were amazing - so hungry for knowledge, so brilliant and articulate, absorbing everything with a lightening speed. Heres what one 5th grader wrote, answering the question What is Math?: Math is creative thinking. Its the treasure chest locked away deep in the mind with endless possibilities to unlock. Math is the part of life that has no boundaries and it is always open to change. Math is everywhere from physics to music. It is shapes, sound, numbers and many more. Math is hidden within every nook and cranny. Math is everything.
