Had a bunch of insulation blown into the house so had to clear out the basement stairwell area. Its a Harry Potter sort of area, two staircases to the basement, one under stairs to second floor. THEN there is the story with the hand painted sign on the wall! But I digress! So while the place was tore up we got the painting done, old wallpaper used as shelf paper in the pantry cool storage area and I splatter painted the stairs. Its a nice start! So back to the story. The previous owner of my place was a black single woman (Im the third woman owner not married!). She had a long term affair with a married man and had five children with him. He ran an illegal gaming room in the basement and painted the sign advertising the card games. Heard he welched on a bet and paid with his life. His widow did not have any children and turned over her death benefits to his mistress who did. We preserved the sign. Thinking about doing a home tour with funky, artsy houses in the spring.
